Welcome!
It’s rather difficult to capture my true excitement as I embark on this new journey into private practice. However, I’d be lying if I said that it was ALL excitement ALL the time. Frankly, starting anything new is pretty scary and I know that I’m not alone in feeling this way when beginning new things. I’d actually be worried for myself if I was too confident in thinking that everything is going to work out because we have to be realistic with ourselves, and there is just too many unknowns for me right now. BUT, what I do know is that I plan to show up—every single day! Not only for myself but for each of you that reach out for help.
My approach to therapy is simple: I’m the Samwise Gamgee to your Frodo Baggins. I’m here to accompany you on your journey and to provide support so that you may endure the weight of the burdens you bear—and hopefully reduce their impact on your life. For those of you not familiar with The Lord of the Rings (which I highly encourage you to remedy as quickly as possible), I am simply a co-narrator to your life story. I do not seek authorship credit and do not aim to write any part of your story for you. I’m here to help you make sense of what you’ve written thus far, and to aid in your comprehension of the events that are most pronounced to you.
I’m a very dialogue-based therapist; meaning that most of our time together will feel conversational. It’s my goal to make you as comfortable as possible so that you may feel open to exploring whatever it is that you seek counsel for. And while I will never give you advice (because I would be robbing you of your dignity and autonomy if I did so), I will always ensure that you feel better equipped to handle life’s stressors; whatever those stressors may be. Even if you choose not to join me in the therapy room, I hope these blogs serve as a guide towards developing greater insight for yourself. My wish for everyone is for you to write your life story as you want it to be read—not as the world may be telling you it should read.
I guess that about captures my thoughts for the moment. I didn’t want to write anything too extensive to begin with and this feels like a good landing place. I will be posting my blogs weekly with a variety of topics and resources for those looking to increase insight, develop a greater capacity for change, and participate in weekly reflections aimed at growth. I hope you join me as I begin this new chapter of my own story.
Best,
Joseph
